Building a model or reconstructing a full size emergency vehicle? What are the different options available for light bars, sirens and radios for the year vehicle you are working on?

I will mainly focus on equipment that is no longer manufactured or supported by it's builder but I hope to include non vehicle things like portable radios and accessories. The pages are not done yet, probably never will be but I hope to have as much as I can up and running.

Hi, My name is Dick Paul, I am a retired police officer. Having been assigned to/as patrol/traffic, accident reconstruction, traffic radar instructor, truck enforcement officer, and (whew) communications officer. In addition to those duties, I am a former Federal S&S dealer and have for the past 35 years installed/repaired/maintained equipment, radios, lights, lettering, etc on police and fire department vehicles including those of the Park Ridge, Rosemont, Harwood Heights, Schaumburg, Des Plaines and Evanston, Illinois departments, as well as design, install and maintain the UHF repeater systems for several of these towns as Northwest Radio Inc.

Prior to that I worked for Motorola service in the Chicago area and N.A.S. Glenview as a mobile radio tech, and recently designed and installed Microwave systems for IDOT's Kennedy Expwy system. I also serve as the technical consultant to the Emergency Communications Committee of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

In addition to communications, I also specialize in the residential/commercial security alarm business and have worked as a 911 dispatcher for over 6 years. I design and create data based websites and software designed for modern day report handling.

I also provide crime prevention organizations with displays of mobile and portable radio equipment dating back to 1949.

From 1967 to 1994, I was also a member of APCO , serving on the Operating and Procedures committee. (You know, we were the people who wrote the 10 codes and got the 911 number and decided that "car 49 from car 45" was better than saying "car 45 to car 49 ", all that stuff.)
(Don't buy those 1956 model cars with "Dial 911" on the side, the number didn't exist then)

That is what I am trying to do here, make your equipment more authentic, for example, don't put an AeroDynic on a 1954 Ford. Also, I hope to be able to supply photos, parts lists and diagrams for those who have an older piece of equipment but no documentation and also provide a year when the equipment was first available.

The information contained herein is not for sale and is provided only as a guide for the serious collector or modeler. However, I do plan on having a section available for equipment trade/swap/sale, this will be available to anyone interested in posting there.

I started building these pages in May 1999. There is a lot of scanning that needs to be done, so it may take a while for updates etc. Some pages may not work, I recently moved the site from AOL to a hosting service and things need to be readjusted. I also hope to have literature in PDF format for you to download. Or if there is something special you need a parts breakdown for, just drop me a note.
